Login to Zoom

If you have not already done so, sign into Zoom. Changing your display name is only done on the Zoom Web Portal.

Changing Your Desk Phone's Display Name

Your display name is the name that appears on your Zoom profile across the Zoom platform, such as the default name when joining a meeting or webinar, your profile card, and in meetings and webinars. By default, Zoom Phone inherits the display name you have set in your profile. If you have never set your display name, Zoom will use your email account's set first name and last name. 

1. Start in the Zoom Web Portalcolby.zoom.us/profile
2. Click Edit to the right of your name.

3. Click the box for Display Name.
4. Enter your new display name (for example, your first name, full name, nickname, or preferred name).

Does changing my display name affect my Zoom Account?

Your display name is the name that appears on your Zoom profile across the Zoom platform, such as the default name when joining a meeting or webinar, your profile card, and in meetings and webinars. Changing your display name will only affect how others see you on Zoom.


My desk phone is showing question marks

Avaya desk phones can't recognize some special characters, like forward slash (/) or comma (,). These special characters may appear as question marks (?). Zoom itself will still display these special characters when you are outbound calling or when someone calls you.

For example: If you have pronouns set in your display name, i.e. (they/them), the forward slash (/) will appear as a question mark (?) on the desk phone, but your calls to other extensions at Colby will still display the forward slash (/).


My display name didn't update on my desk phone, what do I do?

If you have updated your display name in your Zoom Account and your desk phone did not update, please contact support@colby.edu. We will be able to remotely resync your phone.
