There are many network resources available to the Colby community including personal file storage space, video storage space, and web space. Mapping a network drive will allow you to access those network resources easily without having to browse to the full path each time. You must know the path of the network space before starting this process. Instructions for both Macs and Windows are as follows.
Mac Instructions
Note: If you do not login to your computer using your Colby e-mail address and password, you will need to enter your Colby e-mail address and password to access the server.
After connecting to the server (instructions to connect to Filer are found here)
1. Hit the Apple menu, then System Preferences > Users & Groups
2. Click the lock icon to unlock settings and prepare for changes
3. From here, select Login Items and click + to add a new item
4. Find your network drive and click Add, then close the window
5. Click the lock to prevent further changes.
Windows 10 Instructions
- Click the Start button.
- In the search box, type This PC, then select This PC from the search results.
- Click Computer and then click Map network drive.
4. Select a Drive Letter (we suggest starting at Z: and working your way backwards—if a drive letter is already in use, you will see a path name)
5. Type in a Folder name (ex: \\filer\personal\namehere)—the folder must already exist on the server or you will receive an error
6. Check Reconnect at logon
7. Click Finish
Note: If you do not login to your computer using your Colby e-mail address and password, you will need to select Connect using a different user name and use your Colby e-mail address and password.
To view the mapped drive, double click My Computer (on the desktop). You will see the mapped drive under the Network Drives heading.
