File Servers—Access and Details

Colby’s file services are provided for Personal, Course, Departmental, and Research uses. To access these shares, follow the instructions below for Macintosh, Windows, and Linux operating systems.

Selected software is also available via this resource and is documented here.

These file services are only available using on-campus wired connections, Colby Access WiFi, or via a VPN connection.

Accessing Courses, Departments, Personal, Research, or Software Folders Windows 10

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.  

  2. Then type \\filer.colby.edu and press enter.

  3. If you have trouble connecting make sure you are connected to Colby Access. or the Colby VPN.
  4. If prompted, type your Colby username (Colby e-mail with @colby.edu) and your password.
  5. A window will appear with Courses, Departments, Personal and Software folders.
  6. Double-click on the folder you want to access.

Accessing Courses, Departments, Personal, Research, or Software Folders—Macintosh – macOS 12.x.x

  1. In the Menu Bar select the Go menu > Connect to Server…

  2. Enter smb://filer.colby.edu/ in the Server Address: field.

  3. Type your Colby username (Colby e-mail without @colby.edu) and your password.
  4. A window will appear with any folders you have access to.

  5. Double-click on the folder you want to access.

Linux Access (limited support for this function)
