Research Shares

There are currently 3 categories of research share offered. If you would like to discuss these options in more detail or need any clarification feel free to reach out.

Standard

This is a standard share folder, similar to your personal share, that can grow in size as needed and enables the PI to allow other Colby users to have access for research collaboration. While this is audited, accesses logged, and backed up, it is intended for low-risk data and operates as a general shared workspace area for faculty projects frequently involving student collaborators. This can be used for multiple projects at once and access is managed by the faculty member.

Project Specific

This is a project-specific share folder. The only difference between it and the Standard share is that the folder and access group are created for a specific project rather than as a multi-project space.

Secure Workspace VM

This category is significantly different from the other 2. Rather than a network share accessed from your computer, a Virtual Machine workspace is created to both store the data and act as a workspace. This additional layer of separation ensures the data stays entirely on our internal systems both for storage and when being worked on.
