Setting Up Amazon Echo Devices

Instructions for setting up an Amazon Echo device:

  1. Plug in your Echo, and install the Alexa app on your phone.
  2. Start the Alexa app. It will guide you through the set-up process.
  3. Write down the MAC address of your Echo device. It can be found at the bottom of the Echo Setup screen in the Alexa app.
  4. Go to Clearpass and create a new device with this MAC address. Choose your account role and check Enable AirGroup. Give the system some time (15+ minutes) to register the new device.
  5. Continue registering the device through the Alexa app. You may have to enter the log-in credentials for Colby Guest Access through the app's built-in browser. (Note: on Apple devices such as iPhones, there is an issue with the app which does not load through to the browser. If so, try doing it using an Android device)
If you encounter an error while trying to connect to Colby Guest Access that says Colby Guest Access is a log in network and that the device does not support these sorts of networks, it means Clearpass hasn't yet registered your device. Try again in 30 minutes.
