Setting up VPN - GlobalProtect

This software is automatically installed on College-issued computers, so please check your computer to see if it is already installed.

Microsoft Windows Steps

  1. In your web browser, navigate to connect.colby.edu. You may be presented with an Okta login window, if so authenticate.
  2. You will see the Welcoming page for Colby’s VPN GlobalProtect. 
  3. Download the GlobalProtect agent by clicking on Download Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent.           This is a screenshot of a welcoming page for Windows Global Protect
  4. Open the Downloads folder, and double-click on the downloaded installer file.
    1. For Windows 10 and Windows 11, select File Explorer from the task bar, or press the Windows logo key  + keyboard letter E. Under Quick access, select Downloads.
  5. You will be presented with a Welcoming window. Click Next. After selecting Next, you may be presented with another security window asking for your credentials. If so, enter your Colby username and password. GlobalProtect client will continue with the installation.

  6. Continue the installation by clicking Next. You will eventually see a prompt stating Installation CompleteImage that shows GP installation IS COMPLETE
  7. Once the installation is complete, Click Close.
          

You are now going to configure the GlobalProtect client.

  1. Your Windows system tray should now display the GlobalProtect icon appearing as a globe. Single click that icon.                                            Image of GlobalProtect Icon

  3. Enter connect.colby.edu in Portal field. Then click Connect. The GlobalProtect tray icon may blink several times while connecting - this is normal behavior.                              Enter in connect.colby.edu into test field please
  4. One connection is established, you may be asked to authenticate with Okta. Please authenticate.  
  5.  Upon successful connection, a web browser tab will open, stating "Authentication Complete".  You may be prompted to open GlobalProtect. If so, select it.Select open 
  6. You will now be able to access Colby resources securely whether you are on or off campus. When you are done with GlobalProtect please click on GlobalProtect system tray icon and click Disconnect.

Apple macOS Steps

  1. In your web browser, navigate to connect.colby.edu. You may be presented with an Okta login window, if so authenticate.
  2. You will see the Welcoming page for Colby’s VPN GlobalProtect. 
  3. Download the GlobalProtect agent by clicking on Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent.               
  4. Open the Downloads folder and click on the installation file. The Downloads folder is available in the dock or in the Finder sidebar.
  5. Click on the installer file.
  6. In the Introduction screen, click Continue.

  7. In the Destination Select screen, select which hard drive where the software will be installed, then click ContinuePick a hard drive then click continue.
  8. In the Installation Type screen, make sure GlobalProtect is selected, then click Continue.                           Make sure GlobalProtect is selected and click continue.
  9. At this point, you may receive a pop "'Installer.app' would like to access files in your Downloads folder." Click OK.                                              Click OK to allow the installer app to access your download files.
  10. In the Summary screen, click close and move installer to the trash.                                                                                                                  Click close.

You are now going to configure the GlobalProtect client.

  1. Your Mac menu bar should now show the GlobalProtect icon, appearing as a globe. Single click on that icon.             Click on the globe
  2. Click Get Started.

  4. You may be prompted  at this time to authenticate through Okta. Please do so.

Google Android Steps

  1. Open Google Play Store and search for GlobalProtect.
  2. Tap Install.
  3. Once installed, open the app. 
  4. When prompted to allow notifications tap Allow
  5. In the What's your portal address? field enter connect.colby.edu
  6. Tap Connect
  7. You will be asked to authenticate via Okta. Please do so.
  8. You may be prompted to agree to monitoring language. Tap OK.
  9. You are now connected
  10. When you have finished using the VPN, tap on the shield icon in the app to disconnect.

Apple iOS Steps

  1. Open the App Store and search for GlobalProtect.
  2. Tap GET.
  3. Once installed open GloblalProtect.
  4. Leave all fields as their default, and in the URL field enter connect.colby.edu
  5. You are now connected
  6. When you have finished using the VPN, tap on the connection name and then tap Disconnect.
