Adding Random Quiz Questions from the Question Bank in Moodle

Instructors can draw randomized questions from pre-established question bank categories to build dynamic quizzes. This configuration ensures that students receive different questions while covering the same course concepts.

Accessing the quiz question editor

Instructors must navigate to the quiz settings to add questions.

  1. Navigate to the Moodle course page.

  2. Click the quiz activity to open it.

  3. Click the Questions tab in the secondary navigation menu located below the quiz title.

 

Inserting random questions into a quiz

Once the quiz editor is open, instructors can select and filter questions from the question bank.

  1. Click Add on the right side of the screen.

  2. Select a random question from the drop-down menu.

  3. Select the target question category from the Category drop-down menu.
    • Note: Check the Also show questions from subcategories checkbox if you want to pull questions from all subcategories under the selected category.
  4. Click Apply filters to load the list of available questions from the selected category.
    • Note: Instructors must click this button to register the category filter, or the system will return an error.
  5. Select the number of questions to pull from the Number of random questions drop-down menu.

  6. Click Add random question.
