What is Zoom Phone?
Zoom Phone is an internet-based phone service, meaning you can make and receive calls over the Internet using any device that can connect to Zoom. This means:
- You can still use your desk phone with Zoom Phone as you do now.
- You’ll be able to use your Colby phone number (extension) on devices that support Zoom, such as cell phones, computers, laptops, or tablets, as long as you have an Internet connection.
- You’ll no longer need to, and should not use or share your personal cell phone number for work purposes.
- You can easily set working hours, custom greetings, and call-forwarding options in Zoom Workplace or the Zoom Web Portal.
What do I need to know?
- ITS will be communicating with individuals and departments across campus during the 2025-26 academic year to coordinate a time to complete the migration of individual telephone extensions.
- Voicemail will still be forwarded to email. When we transition you to Zoom Phone, you will need to personalize your voicemail greeting. We’ve made a guide on personalizing your voicemail.
- Since Zoom Phone can be used from any location on or off campus, it is important to understand how to configure and set your emergency location for your safety..
