Secure File Transfer Protocol

FTP (file transfer protocol) is the standard method of bulk data transfer between computers. Examples would be the upload of a (non-Commonspot) webpage from your PC or Mac to your personal webpage space on colby0, or moving a large data file from one computer to another. SFTP (secure FTP) is a newer protocol that does bulk data transfers over an encrypted link between the two computers, and is the preferred method of transfer.

Please review the instructions below, based on operating system, to setup FTP on your computer. If you have questions or problems with these instructions, please contact the ITS Support Center at support@colby.edu or ext. 4222.
