Setting up the Camera
Hardware Configuration
- Charge the battery if it is not already charged. The batteries have a "check" button to indicate the charge level.
- Insert the battery into back of the camera. The arrow and metal contacts should point towards the left. Push in, slide left, and you'll hear a "click" once it's inserted.
- Verify that memory cards are inserted into the slots (labeled SD CARD).
- Twist out and adjust the LCD display, found on the left side of the camera body.
- On the upper left of the camera body is a switch labeled POWER, with settings for CAMERA, OFF, and MEDIA. Rotate the dial to CAMERA.
- Remove lens cap and store in a safe location.
- The handle grip (on camera right side) can be adjusted for both rotation and strap tightness.
- If using a tripod, there are screw mounts underneath the camera which work with larger tripod plates, such as the Manfrotto tripods.
Settings
The settings listed here are a very limited list of what is available within the camera. For more information, see the Additional References section below. Run test shots with the camera, and if footage doesn't look or feel right, ask us for help.
- Adjust record settings
- Press the physical MENU button to the left of the display.
- Using the small joystick, navigate to the third tab (looks like a camera frame with configuration wheel). The joystick can point in four directions, and may also be pressed down to select/click.
- Under Tab 1, initialize media if necessary.
- Choose Main Rec Format. MP4 (SD Card) is recommended for general use.
- Under System Frequency, choose 24.00 Hz for a more cinematic look, or 59.94 Hz for a more "TV" look or when doing slow-motion.
- Under Tab 2, you may adjust frame rate (should match system frequency) and resolution.
- Adjust visual settings
- Ensure that the ND filter is set properly. This darkens the image, and can be useful when filming outside. Find ND FILTER towards the front left of the camera and press + or - to get the desired setting. If unsure, turn it off by default.
- The shutter speed is adjusted by pressing the SHUTTER button and using the monitor joystick to toggle up and down.
- The aperture is adjusted by spinning the dial on the lower front of the camera (near the lower record button). This will adjust roughly from F4 - F22.
- The ISO or gain is adjusted by pressing ISO/GAIN button and using the monitor joystick to toggle up and down.
- The white balance is adjusted by pressing the WB button on the bottom left of the camera and pressing up or down on the joystick to adjust.
Audio Setup
The C200 has a very simple built in microphone, which should only be used as a reference.
- Attaching the shotgun microphone
- Mount the shotgun mic into the shock mount on the camera. Use the thumbscrew to release and tighten.
- Connect the XLR cable from the microphone to INPUT 1 on the right rear of the camera.
- Input 1 mic settings are found both in the menu and as physical switches on the right of the camera body.
- Connect the lavalier microphone
- Using an XLR cable, connect the Shure lav mic barrel to INPUT 2 on the camera body.
- Settings are found in the camera menus.
- To adjust audio recording levels, use the dials found on the back of the camera behind the AUDIO STATUS panel.
- The provided headphones should be plugged into the headphone port on the back of the camera.
