KeyServer Client Installation Instructions

Summary

This guide will walk you through installation and configuration of the KeyServer client for macOS and Windows.

Body

The Sassafras Keyserver client, aka KeyAccess, is used to allow the installation of software that needs a special license to be shared. Two examples of this are FileMaker Pro and Stata 17. Follow these instructions to install the client. A restart is required.

Macintosh OSX

  1. Click the Menu Bar select menu item Go > Connect to Server...
  2. Enter smb://filer.colby.edu/software the server field at the top of the dialog that appears
  3. Click the Connect button
    1. If you are prompted "You are attempting to connect....", click Connect
  4. Enter your Colby email and password if prompted for your Colby username and password
  5. Navigate to  Software > Macintosh > Keyserver Client
  6. Drag ksp-client.pkg onto your desktop
  7. Double click ksp-client.pkg on your desktop
  8. The installer window will open, click Continue and then click Install
  9. It will prompt you to restart the computer
  10. After the Restart open KeyAccess client
    1. On some Mac systems this is under System Preferences > KeyAccess at the bottom of the window
    2. On other Macs, it is under System Settings... > KeyAccess at the bottom of the list
  11. Unlock using the lock in the bottom left corner
  12. Enter keyserver.license.colby.edu into the field name KeyServer Address
  13. Click on the Logon button
  14. Click on the OK button after KeyAccess reports a successful connection.

Windows

  1.     Click the Start button (Windows flag icon)
  2.     Type \\filer in the search box
  3.     Press the ENTER key
  4.     Open the Software folder
  5.     Open the folder Windows > Keyserver Client
  6.     Double click ksp-client-x64.exe
  7.     Click Yes when asked if you want to allow the program to make changes to the computer
  8.     Click Install
  9.     Click Finish
  10.     Click Yes to restart the computer
  11.     After restart, find and open KeyAccess on your computer
  12.     For the KeyServer Address: enter keyserver.license.colby.edu
  13.     Click on the Logon button
  14.     Click on the OK button after KeyAccess reports a successful connection.
