Navigating the Nudge window to update macOS

Nudge will notify and allow the end user a few options including deferrals to perform macOS updates

Nudge is an application which will notify end users when new macOS updates are available. Colby ITS strongly encourages that all devices be fully up to date with security updates within 30 days of release. Depending on what is available, Apple will give you options to either perform updates or upgrades

To update (stay on currently installed macOS) from the Nudge window

1. Click Update Device.  The macOS Software Update appears
   
   
   
    
2. Click More Info
   
   
    
3. Review the options and select the desired updates (it is recommended to select all) then click Install Now
   
   
   
    
4. The computer will download the updates to install.  Some updates may require a reboot.

To upgrade (changes from the currently installed macOS version to the latest compatible version) from the Nudge window

1. Click Update Device .  The macOS Software Update appears
   
   
   
    
2. Click Upgrade Now. This downloads the macOS installer and copies it to the Applications folder.  When download is complete, an upgrade window will appear
   
   

3. Click Continue
4. Click Agree
5. Click Agree again
6. If there is more than one hard drive shown, single-click Macintosh HD (the hard drive may be labeled something else if you renamed it) then click Continue
7. When / if prompted, type your Colby username and password then click OK

As the upgrade is performed, it is normal for the computer reboot several times.  Note: indicated time remaining is approximate
